Rockpool

Original oil painting, 66cm x 45cm on canvas.
2022
£350

This painting captures the harsh nature along a rocky shoreline. As water and rock collide, the force of the pounding wave slowly erodes the rock, restructuring its formation slowly over time. Giant waves are forced into the air like eruptions from a volcano, spraying salty mist into the air and on nearby rocks, its slightly acidic nature also eroding the land.

But in this harsh environment, life can still be found hidden in the rocks and leftover rockpools of water. Crabs and shrimp, anemones, star fish and nudibranch all make habitats like these their home. It's amazing how a shallow puddle of water formed by crashing waves can host such diverse life.
