About Me

I am Louis Szabo, and I started my journey as a self-taught realism landscape artist at 15 years old, dedicated to creating impactful works that romanticise the immense biodiversity of the natural world. Through my art, I strive to show a deeper appreciate by honouring the natural world’s grandeur and invite viewers to reflect on its powerful beauty and its conservation. My paintings capture nature’s beauty through a realistic yet painterly style, using rich colour, juxtaposed textures, and atmospheric depth to bring landscapes to life with precision and emotion.

Rooted in my Slovakian heritage, much of my inspiration comes from Slovakia’s majestic wilderness, particularly the Tatry Mountains, where sweeping views, diverse wildlife, and vivid vegetation inspire recurring themes. While Tatry remains a recurring subject, my artistic vision extends far beyond, encompassing diverse scenes worldwide, often finding beauty in the otherwise imperfect and mundane. In addition to expansive landscapes, I often shift focus to intimate scenes, where vegetation or animals take centre stage, revealing the intricate details of nature’s design. Whether painting grand landscapes or focusing on the intricate details of flora and fauna, I aim to reflect nature’s richness with precision and heart.

Hand stretched linen canvases

To ensure my work endures for generations, I employ traditional century old canvas-making techniques, crafting each painting on archival-quality linen canvas surfaces that I hand stretch myself. This lengthy process is my commitment to not only preserves the artwork’s longevity but also ties my appreciation to a time-honoured artistic legacy.

I think art is more than a means to decorate, it's a manifested visual story of the artists will, meant to express and share their values. A message that can be passed from generation to generation. My art is meant for those who participate in the idea that the natural world is a dynamic blessing to us, but also understanding its vulnerabilities and need for protection.

Although my journey so far has been short, only being 20 years old as you’re reading this, it has been an incredibly insightful and fulfilling one. With the help of my supporting family and friends, I have participated in multiple public gallery exhibitions across the UK, sold paintings to private collectors internationally and worked on commissioned projects. I look forwards to where this adventure of mine takes me next.
