Castle Lachlan
Original oil painting, 40cm x 30cm x 4cm on linen.
2025
£300
Bathed in the soft greens of early summer and framed by the shelter of ancient trees, Castle Lachlan stands as a timeless sentinel on the edge of Scotland’s Loch Fyne. This oil painting captures not just the architecture of the 18th-century New Castle Lachlan, but the romantic spirit of the land it inhabits, where highland mist meets quiet grandeur. The white harled tower rises with a quiet dignity from the landscape, ivy climbing its stone walls like a living memory. The surrounding trees whisper centuries of history, while the rolling hills of Argyll fade gently into the horizon. Through the lens of romantic realism, this painting invites viewers into a world where history breathes through landscape, a tribute to place, permanence, and the harmony between built and natural beauty. Castle Lachlan has been the ancestral home of the MacLachlans for over 700 years. The ruins of the original Old Castle Lachlan, a 15th-century stronghold, still rest nearby on the shores of the loch, bearing the scars of the 1745 Jacobite rising. In contrast, the current structure, New Castle Lachlan, was built around 1790, reflecting Georgian refinement with Scottish baronial flair.
